Today is Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent which lasts forty days until Easter. I am not checking anyone's blog or music site for Lent, also not using any tobacco products. I have found these things take up a lot of time that I could be using for better purposes. My church wrote that the goal of Lent is not first and foremost about deprivations but more about softening our hearts so that they can be open to the realities of the Spirit and experiencing a secret hunger and thirst for communion with God. That is my goal.

I got a gift card for the Virgin megastore this Christmas. Yesterday I decided to cash this gift in, so I took the Subway down to Union Square. I found some neat vinyl on sale MC5, These New Puritans, and Kraftwerk are now mine. I was checking out the $5 classic CD's. I had Velvet Underground-White Light, White Heat, and then I picked up Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth. I look around and directly to my left is Thurston Moore. I have a weird feeling in my stomach like when you see a celebrity except this guy has 5 CD's in his hands and is browsing right next to me. I made some small talk with him and felt a little silly buying this CD but he said that he loved MC5 so I felt kinda cool. Anyways what are the chances you pick up a CD and the person who wrote most of the music on it is standing right next to you!!

Two players retired this week that triggered fond youthful sports memories. Growing up in Atlanta in the 90's one could not forgot these two. The first being Mr. Greg Maddux

He won the only NFL game I have ever been to a Falcons/Saints with his 4th quater field goal. Enjoy retirement geezers!

Weird Times

I went on a run with my dog last night at 9. I come back 20 minutes later and there are 25 people in the stairwell from the 3rd floor up to the fifth. I ask whats going on and nobody says anything. One guy says, "just walk around us". I notice some guys have what appear to be camera equipment and microphones. Another guy was saying they were shooting on location and the apartment is always unlocked. I got to the fifth floor just a someone was opening the apartment door where a Middle Eastern Family of 15 used to live (no joke, and it was one bedroom apartment!) anyways maybe they were shooting a tv/porn/blockbuster in the apartment I don't know.

I was thinking of how bands overload on gear. Is it too much? Some of the artists on this list are solo so that makes sense right? Maybe I'm just becoming a minimalist.
